Working in Mississauga
From the lakeshore to Meadowvale.
South Mississauga — Port Credit, Lorne Park, Clarkson, Mineola — has large, tree-heavy lots and higher-end landscaping, where premium pavers, aluminum or composite fencing and large decks are common requests.
North of the 403, Erin Mills, Meadowvale and Churchill Meadows are mostly 1980s–2000s subdivisions with standard lots, where homeowners are replacing original wood fences and upgrading asphalt driveways to interlock.
Parts of the city along the Credit River and its tributaries are conservation-regulated, which can add an approval for decks, walls or grading near a valley.

City of Mississauga Rules
Know the bylaws before you build.
We check these on every Mississauga quote visit. Bylaws change and lots differ (corner lots, easements, ravine areas), so treat this as a starting point and confirm with the City of Mississauga for your address.
Fence height
Maximum 2.0 m above ground. In a front yard within 4.5 m of the street, 1.0 m if solid or 1.5 m if open (see-through), and 1.0 m inside a corner-lot sight triangle.
City of Mississauga: fencesPool enclosures
The enclosure must be at least 1.2 m high, and the City has to approve it (Pool Enclosure By-law 0191-2011).
City of Mississauga: poolsPrivate trees
Mississauga protects private trees 15 cm (6") or more in diameter — including dead ones. A permit is needed to remove or injure them, which is a lower threshold than most GTA cities.
City of Mississauga: tree permitsDriveway widening
A widening doesn't need a building permit, but changing the curb cut does. Since By-law 0182-2024, the maximum driveway width depends on lot frontage (3.0 m, 6.0 m or 8.5 m).
Driveway By-law 0182-2024 (PDF)Conservation areas
Most of Mississauga is in the Credit Valley Conservation watershed; work near the Credit River valley and its creeks may need CVC approval.
Credit Valley ConservationDeck permits
Under Ontario's Building Code, a deck over 10 m² (about 108 sq ft) or attached to the house generally needs a building permit, and the City of Mississauga may set its own triggers based on height above grade. We confirm with the building department and pull the permit when one's needed.

Mississauga FAQ
Quick answers.
Up to 2.0 m in most of the yard. Within 4.5 m of the street in the front yard, it's 1.0 m for a solid fence or 1.5 m for an open (see-through) one.
If a tree on your property is 15 cm (6") or more in diameter — even a dead one — you need a permit to remove or injure it. That catches a lot of backyard fence and deck projects, so we flag it at the quote visit.
Send the form on this page or call 437-241-6287. We reply within one business day and book a free on-site visit in Mississauga to measure, check the bylaws and lot lines for your address, and give you a fixed written price.
